Sifu Tommy Steele - Founder & Chief Instructor

Biography

Sifu Tommy Steele began studying martial arts in 1977 at the age of 12, starting with Boxing and later in the traditional arts of Hung Gar and Praying Mantis. He began extensive training in Bruce Lee’s art of Jeet Kune Do in 2000. He continues his personal JKD training and growth as a martial artist to this day while also studying with Wing Chun and Filipino Martial Arts masters (and many others) to gain a deeper understanding of fighting methods. He has been teaching martial arts in the Airdrie area for the past 15 years.

Philosophy on Martial Arts

In order to get good at your craft, you have to “Drill it ’till you kill it” no matter what martial art you practice. We practice JKD, but do not try to be a carbon copy of Bruce Lee or anyone else. Take what is useful and discard the rest if it does not work for you. A street fight is “alive” and a martial artist must be able to react to (or better yet intercept) his or her opponent’s movements in direct ways designed to end the fight as quickly as possible.
